How do I know if my product is compatible with the Five Star Study App?

For Five Star notetaking supplies, you’ll notice a square mark in each of the four corners of the pages and triangles along the edge of the paper. These unique elements are what make Five Star spiral notebooks, composition books and filler paper uniquely compatible with the Study App!

Five Star folders, binders and expanding files that are Five Star Study App compatible have the same corner marks on the outside of the supplies, along with a clear view cover to slide in handouts so flashcards can easily be created!

Lastly, all Five Star student planners are Study App compatible to help you stay organized for the year ahead!

How do I scan my Five Star notebook?

In bright lighting conditions, hold your mobile phone over your Five Star compatible notebook and position all four page corner markers with the brackets shown in the app. Once the app recognizes the unique page, it will take a scan of your page and identify the flagged notes, instantly turning them into flashcards.

Why is the app not recognizing my flagged notes for flashcards?

There could be several reasons your app isn’t recognizing the flagged notes:

  • You are not using a Five Star notebook that’s specifically designed for use with the app. Your notebook should have markings on each corner and triangle symbols in the margin.
  • You are not filling in enough of the triangle symbols. These symbols next to the margin should be filled in at least 50% for the app to recognize them sufficiently.
  • You are using the “camera” mode instead of “scan” while capturing your notes.
What is the difference between “Scan” and “Camera” mode?
“Scan” mode has a special technology which recognizes flagged notes in your Five Star notebook and creates instant flashcards. “Camera” mode is for documents other than the unique Five Star notebook paper, such as handouts and guided notes.
How do I create flashcards in the Five Star Study app?

Using your Five Star notebook, flag (or shade in) the triangle symbols next to important test concepts you would like on a flashcard. Ensure that the triangle symbols are shaded in enough to ensure the app recognizes them. Capture your notes using “Scan” mode and your flashcards will be created for you with the flagged concepts on the back of your flashcard. Save your flashcards in your desginated subject folder. To modify your flashcards, use the cropping tool.

How do I change the color or rename my subject folder?

You can easily change the name or color of your subject folders in edit mode by clicking the three dots on the top right corner of your screen. You can rearrange your subject folders by holding down on the subject folder.

Am I able to share my notes with someone else?

Your flashcards are a personal study aid and will be unique to you. You can, however, share your scanned notes in Google Drive and by pressing the “Share” button via text/email.

How do I link to my Google Drive account?

You will be prompted to link to your Google Drive following the new user tutorial. You can also choose to link up later by going to “Settings”, “Connect”, and then “Google Drive Setup”.

I’ve modified the files in my Google Drive. Why doesn’t it show in the Five Star Study App?

Your changes in Google Drive will not be reflected in the app, however, all your changes you make in the app will show up in Google Drive. Rest assured your notes are all saved automatically on to your Google Drive (if you are linked).

Do you need a special Five Star notebook for the app to work?

Yes, to experience the full benefits of the app including the ability to create instant flashcards, you will need an app enabled Five Star notebook. Happy Studying!

How do I scan my Five Star planner into the Five Star Study App?

To scan your planner into the app, hold your phone over the left side of the planner spread, wait until page is captured, then move your phone to the right side of the planner spread. After your first scan, if you have added in new tasks to your planner, you can rescan your pages using the same method. And the best part is, nothing will be duplicated!!

Why does one task in my physical planner appear as two different tasks in the app?
If you have used more than one line in your planner to write your task, it will appear as two different tasks within the app. To combine tasks, hold down on the task and drag it to the task you would like it to merge with. You can also merge tasks by hitting the three dots next to your subject name.
Do my tasks show in my native reminder and calendar app in my phone?

Yes! Ensure that you have enabled this feature on your phone by going into the “Settings”, “Connect”, “Permissions” and then “Go to Settings” in your phone. Only tasks that you set a “Reminder” for will appear in your native reminders app.
